"Every city has a version of itself that only the people who live there really know, Sour goes looking for it"
Sour is a guide to Leeds best food, drink and culture... no, wait, come back! Yes, we've seen guides come and go and ebb and flow, but Sour is something a bit different. It's a handsome, re-assuringly weighty, yet pocket-sized book of stories - stories about businesses, businesses that do things in a certain way, which is their way.
No stock photographs (haven't we had enough of photographs anyway?), no adverts, just a chapter per venue where a story, a history, and a vision unfolds. Origins, evolutions, operations, specialisms, products, people (isn't this all about people?) - all coming together to create places you might already know by heart, places you always meant to visit, or perhaps places that you never knew existed.
There are titans here (take a bow Brudenell), trail blazers (the wonderful Laynes), innovators (Waterborne book buying at the Hold Fast), record breakers (the magisterial Hyde Park Picture House)... and much more besides. Three chapters cover Coffee and Cafes, Food and Drink and Culture. 37 places, 244 pages, and 235 grams of discovery.
There may be no 'I' in team, but there is definitely an 'our' in Sour
