Riots, Rebellions and Uprisings | Left Cultures

Regular price £10.00

Another cracker from the Left Cultures' stable - this time with a focus on moments in UK history when people have gathered, stood up, and taken on the system. Taking us from the Midland Revolt in the 17th Century to The Battle of Kenmure Street in 21st Century Glasgow - these ten accounts demonstrate just what people can achieve if they come together.

The examples here, each brilliantly illustrated by ten different artists, span the UK and are all markedly different form each other - from laundress strikes in Yorkshire to uprisings against a heavy handed constabulary in 19th Century Cornwall. As editor Phil Wrigglesworth says in his introduction 'Riots, rebellions and uprisings are part of our past histories, but they are also a big part of the present and future too'. There is plenty here to learn from, to spark conversation with, to make us think about the current situation, and maybe to start to change things.
