Lithography: Drawn to the Stone | Bernard Cheese

Regular price £10.00

This beautiful little illustrated introduction to stone lithography was designed by Bernard Cheese, one of the finest lithographers of his generation, and arose from trying to describe lithography in words (very hard). It is accompanied here by examples of markmaking by Hilary Stebbing, who attended The Central in the 1930s and lithographed some of the most stunning children's books of the mid-20th Century

The appreciation of Stone Lithography is returning, both as a counterbalance to today's digital technology but also, as the legacy of the artist/lithographers of the 20th Century gains wider recognition, inspiring artists and printmakers to experiment too.

Another perfectly published title by Design for Today - this ten panel concertina (each panel 95mm by 145mm) contains Cheese's illustrated steps to making a lithograph on stone on one side, and on the reverse side of the concertina is an introduction to lithography, with added illustrations by Hilary Stebbing, that demonstrate the textures achievable via the stone.

Size: 145 x 95mm (folded) and 960 x 145mm (unfolded)
