Brick Bonds, by graphic designer Melissa Price, is a book devoted to the humble building brick; or more specifically the patterns that are used to turn these bricks into walls and other structures.
Inside, beautifully visualised in brick red ink on cream Munken paper, the contents start with an introduction to the anatomy of a brick, and then move through the common Wall Bonds, Paving Bonds, Diaper Patterns (epitomised by diamond motifs) and finally a section of the more intricately formed Decorative Patterns.
Each brick bond represented (of which there are almost 60) is given a full page illustration, and, at the rear, a full description of the bond depicted.
This is a handsomely published object - produced with an exposed spine which allows the pages to lie flat. Anyone interested in architectural detail, typologies, graphic design or book design for that matter, will find a lot to get lost in here.
