BranD #81 | Exhalation and Inhalation in Design: Rationality and Sensitivity

Regular price £21.95

Inside:

BranD have always disrupted the layout of the magazine - die-cutting, perforating, inserting and hinging whenever the content called for it. Issue 81, however, takes things to a different level being split into two sections which offer two distinct reading experiences. The first half maintains the conventional size (225:295 mm) with the left to right flip through that provides a stable and familiar feeling. The second half drops into a vertical format, creating a striking visual contrast and disrupting the usual reading experience. Added to this are a set of concertina pages that pull out to reveal 10 words about rationality and sensitivity.

It's an insanely beautiful issue too - with an emphasis on the interplay between rationality and sensitivity for the designer and what challenges that presents in the times we find ourselves in. There are chapters on how design can bring convenience to our lives whilst enriching its quality (with some beautiful exampes), There is also a profile on the work of Jose Quintanar (see cover), whose calm and poetic illustrative style counters the numbness of everyday life with romance.
