Beton Bibliotheques | Michael Revill
Michael Revill follows up his well-received publications on brutalist churches with a new zine that looks at surviving examples of libraries built in the brutalist style. These buildings, built between 1962-1982, are taken from towns and cities across the UK - from Brighton to Edinburgh, and demonstrate a wealth of styles and features. You'll also find accompanying copy that elucidate further aspects of the design and history of these buildings as well as details on their construction dates, architects involved and the listing status.
In his intro, Michael says he was prompted into documenting these wonderful structures by the decline in public services, the removal and repurposing of these vital public buildings and the common issues faced by brutalist buildings in general - all factors that place libraries closer to the 'high risk' category than most.
