The philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein built the wooden cabin that appears on the front of 'A Simpler Life'. It sits 30 metres above a lake in Norway, near the small village of Skjoolden. Wittgenstein used it to sit and think in isolation. Imagine - no phones, no crowds, no noise. Couldn't most of us could do with our own peaceful cabin above a serene lake from time to time?
We live in a world full of options, products and ideas. It's a busy world, one that feels constantly switched on, a world that doesn't pause for breath. How, in this time and this place, can we find more peace, pare down and simplify our lives?
A Simpler Life by The School of Life is a guide to finding simplicity. It takes a philosophical approach that helps us to understand the roots of our distractions and, through chapters that cover lifestyle, work, relationships, social life and culture, helps us to take steps to tune out the static that surrounds us and focus on what matters to us.
