Astre is a brand new title from the good folks at 3D Total (who bring us the excellent Character Design Quarterly). This premium, large format magazine (325 x 235mm!) has been launched to help celebrate the 25th birthday of this industry-leading art-book publisher. Astre is definitely a fitting tribute to their continuing endeavours.
This isn't just a wonderful glorification of the artwork that has typified 3D Total's output over the years, but it is also a glorification of the magazine as physical object itself. Inside, you'll find the sort of treatments and materials that are always guaranteed to light us up - gorgeous, quality mixed paper types, luxury finishes and treatments, die-cuts, debossing, exclusive pull-out prints (including work by Audra Auclair, Janice Sung, Chantal Horeis, Feefal, and Eliza Ivanova), bookmarks, stickers and posters...all of it enhancing the exclusive and beautiful artworks within. And yes, each copy is also hand-numbered.
It isn't merely a visual feast either, there are artist's insights included throughout, giving valuable background on the work they create. Astre also works towards celebrating real art created by real people, in an attempt to combat the negative effects that AI is having on the industry.
