Helen Hancocks is an illustrator and bookshop owner (the lovely Shelf Editions in Lincoln) who also publishes Shelf, a magazine that celebrates picture book matters. Artistic, bookshop owning publishers are among our favourite things, so Shelf is a welcome addition to our shelves.
Issue 3, which is the biggest issue yet, is bursting with interviews, reviews, publisher profiles and articles. Inside you'll find ruminations on generative AI, chats with much-loved illustrators, profiles on artists reinvigorating classic stories for new generations, and conversations with illustrators working together to raise awareness and stand in solidarity with persecuted and vulnerable people. That's not to mention the 51 pages of book reviews that make our job of stock selection that much easier!
Finally a magazine that treats the picture book as an art form deserving of criticism and focus!
