The Second Summer of Love is now a distant dream. 27 years later, however, we are still feeling the effect. Different music, different drugs, a youthquake that change laws, re-wrote societal structure, changed our DNA. It lives on too, through its ephemera, the visual record of nights blurred and misty in the memory, bits of paper promising intoxicating organised madness in the form of A.C.I.D, balearic beats, house, jungle, techno, garage. Flyers... the currency of the movement, brought us events and happenings named Shoom, Hedomism, Phantasy, Genesis, Future, Trip City... a new language promising new experiences, far beyond what had gone before.

Phatmedia present a treasure trove of this ephemeral material, plundered from their own archive and further afield. Hundreds of examples of this unique and singular graphic media, covering well over 50 different event organisers. At almost 300 pages, this volume (the first of more to come) is a rich and important source of late '80s rave identity - a xeroxed, DIY, hand-drawn and experimental vernacular that redefined our visual landscape (and continues to influence 21st century design).

Each chapter covers a event/party organiser's output, and alongside the beautifully presented examples (all annotated with dates, venues, promoters etc) are recollections from the people who made it happen.

This is a handsome, well-researched, beautifully laid out hardback (thank you again Velocity Press) and will serve as inspiration for years to come.
