This beautifully published book is the official catalogue and companion volume to the exhibition of the same title held at the Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, Tokyo in 2025.
A central figure in the Aesthetic and Art Deco movements, Aubrey Beardsley was also influenced by Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock prints. The contents, which are copiously illustrated with Beardley's works throughout, trace the short life of the English illustrator and author from his early works to his illustrations for Salomé by Oscar Wilde, his work for the periodical The Savoy and the illustrations for Théophile Gautier’s Mademoiselle de Maupin.
As well as a wealth of incredible imagery, the book also presents us with essays (both in Japanese and English) which illuminate the artist's work, the period he was working in, and the spread and popularity of the Anglo-Japanese style.
