General Strike: 100 Year Anniversary | Unite The Union

Regular price £12.00

Published by Unite the Union to coincide with the centenary of the 1926 General Strike and Miners' Lockout. Britain's workers downed tools in solidarity with miners facing pay cuts, but the strike's leaders capitulated after nine days, leaving the miners to fight on alone for another six months. It's part of working class folklore, but as the essays here show, the reality is more complex.

Ten contributions are included here by trade unionists and historians of the strike: Callum Cant, Steve Carter, Daniel Edmonds, Rianne Hooley, Janet Hughes, Keith Laybourn, Matthew Lee, Edd Mustill, Liam Ryan, Ed Waugh and Liz Wood.

These are accompanied by original illustrations from trade union cartoonist Jamie-Max Caldwell, rarely-seen archive photographs and sumptuous design by Craig Oldham.
