THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE...
The third instalment in Adam Allsuch Boardman's 'Illustrated History' series investigates the urban legends that have mystified and terrified us from pre-modernity to the present day. These legends, myths and folktales have spread like a creepy contamination, lodging themselves in our collective consciousness, and making sure that we always shut that closet door tight before bed.
This is a place of the weird and the eerie, of elusive cryptids, lake-dwelling monsters, spirits of the undead, and unexplained phenomena. It isn't just the prominent and popular either, (although there's plenty of vampires, UFOs and yetis among these pages), there's a plethora of thrillingly esoteric stuff here to press down your panic button - including morbid mobiles, harmful hairdos, eldritch elevators and (very popular at my school) death by popping candy.
It's a brilliant book, exquisitely and abundantly illustrated once again, and full of entertaining 'facts' and fictions. Just one thing - rumour has it that if you read this book backwards it may well be the last book you'll ever read...
