Excess Baggage - Yorkshire Edition | A Collection of Paper Bags from Across Yorkshire

The 21st May marks the start of a brand new summer exhibition here at Colours May Vary and we are delighted to be welcoming the Paper Bag Archive in to adorn our walls. Overseen by designer and publisher Tim Sumner, the PBA is a rich resource of archival ephemera that celebrates the humble, and once ubiquitous, paper carrier bag

The archive (said to be the largest in the world!) contains examples that range from the early 1900s to the present day and which represent a wealth of different subject areas - from travel and tourism to leisure and hospitality, food and drink to sick bags!

The exhibition ‘Excess Baggage - Yorkshire Edition’ takes a deep delve into the archive to present a selection of bags from all over this fair county - including terrific examples from Leeds, Sheffield, Ilkley, Bradford, Hull, Scarborough, and more! From bakeries to stationers, museums to bookshops - this little lot will have you pining for simpler times, when a paper bag came with every purchase.
