Postcards from Scotland : Scottish Independent Music 1983-1995 | Grant McPhee

Regular price £25.00

5.5 million people live in Scotland, and it would seem a good many of them form bands. Seriously, if you start listing bands that come/came from over the border you'll be there a long time, and most of them are good bands too. Sure, there were many great Scottish bands in existence prior to the brilliantly documented period you'll find here (i mean where would we be with Alex Harvey, the Associates, Orange Juice, Altered Images, The Incredible String Band... it goes on), but this is an era where an influx of young and talented musicians began to remake the scene in their own image.

Postcards from Scotland is an oral history that draws from over 100 interviews with the key musicians of the time, including The Cocteau Twins, Shop Assistants, Teenage Fanclub, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Primal Scream and many more. It was a scene that jangled, wore polka dot shirts and tight trews, had great hair and, thankfully, made heart-stoppingly great music (it also takes up a large proportion of my record collection).

Watch McPhee's Teenage Superstars, then read this, you'll never come back home.
