It's heartening to see the Leeds music scene getting the recognition it deserves. We've had Gavin Butt's excellent exploration of the Leeds post-punk and art school scene, and now here's Mark Andrew's excellent biography of Leeds' goth legends Sisters of Mercy.
Covering the two classic line ups (Andrew Eldritch on vocals, Craig Adams on bass, Gary Marx and Ben Gunn – and later Wayne Hussey – on guitars, and a drum machine called Doktor Avalanche), and taking us from the band's formation to their demise, this is a brilliant, up close and personal tale of a truly forward-thinking band.
Now in paperback, with a new forward by band co-founder Gary Marx, this weighty tome draws on dozens of interviews with band members and key figures in the Sister's story to tell the definitive story yet of this singular and influential group.
