Inside:

To Have And To Hold is a beautifully produced publication that presents the reader with selections of that most ephemeral of objects, the paper bag. Issue 2 takes as its focus the museum. Often, when visiting museums, especially as children, we counted the minutes until we hit the gift shop to purchase that small rubber dinosaur eraser, branded pencil, or exhibition postcard. These objects were dropped into paper bags emblazoned with the logotypes of the institutions -bags that were, in most instances, quickly discarded.

Thank heavens that someone had the notion to keep them, press them, and store them away. Here are 54 glorious examples of these once ubiquitous paper bags, ranging from the early 1900s to the present day. They take us from from the iconic institutions of the capital (Madame Tussaud's, The British Museum, etc.) to cities and museums further afield - it's great to see the Yorkshire examples collected here, from The Royal Armouries in Leeds and the The Castle Museum in York, to the Kirklees Museum in Huddersfield and the Bronte museum in Haworth.

As Matilda Pye, who introduces this issue notes, these bags are important memory portals, and, as such, this collection is a valuable link to the past. It's also worth noting that the publication's lovely production details - the saddle stitched binding and die cut wraparound paper bag cover - probably mean that these will survive long into the future.
