Inside:
Objects of desire. As we dissolve into the digital, our desire for the solid, tangible, and, notably, analogue objects from our near past gain appeal. Maybe it's nostalgia calling us back, an anchor in calmer waters, who knows? What we do know is this issue of The Modernist is full of such objects, be they landline telephones, mid-'70s Rohan mountaineering jackets, the modernist and functional Kodak Instamatic, the labour saving and high status Kenwood Chef, the technical precision of the Rotring Rapidograph pen, and the wobbly-wheeled, omnipresent shopping trolley.
The issue invites you to reach in, so tactile and beautiful are these, now largely obsolete objects on the page. Maybe we shouldn't forget quite so quickly.
