When we were both growing up in Hemel Hempstead in the '80s, there was a shop called Garlands that stocked, among other head-turning gizmos, an array of Loncraine Broxton executive 'toys' - your Buzzle, Stick Stack, Pharaoh's Folly, Gyration and, of course, your Newton's Cradle. It was an absolute treasure trove of the kinetic and the magnetic, soundtracked by the almost constant clacking of metal balls.
This beautifully published title (check out the lenticular cover!) from the lovely folks at Four Corners Books gathers together the huge range of innovative, playful and imaginative desk toys, sculptures and other inventive products produced by Richard Loncraine and Peter Broxton (who both provide the commentary within). This is a peek back into the workings of two truly creative and witty minds - whose products, especially the iconic Newton's Cradle, defined the whole executive toys market for decades.
