Holding the Camera (Extended Edition) | Alberto Vieceli

Regular price £20.25

Alberto Vieceli has produced some of our favourite books, from the bare postcard templates of Salute Dal Mare to the Joy Division worship of Divisions of Pleasure, his books always make us smile, and set our brains' gears turning (are there really Joy Division slippers?). Even Stevie got a name check in his Animal Greetings book!

His new title, 'Holding the Camera' is about just that: images of people posing with analogue cameras in their hands - flashes aloft, camera snug to face, cameras sitting atop tripods, worn on the wrist, tied around a thigh, wielded while crouching behind cars, peeping around walls...

This is a book about loss, about a genre of photograph and activity that has slipped from sight. Today we hold our ever present phone aloft and leaning back slightly, tap, tap and tap again. Once, without knowing what our results might be, we balanced, checked the light, steadied ourselves and hoped that we'd capture what was before us. This book is proof of the efforts we took and the poses we took up.
