Ploterre | Wind Book

Regular price £15.00

This book retells the story of the first year that the wind in Orkney was left unobserved.

Sparked by a barometer enshrined in a glass case on the streets of Stromness, Rebecca (Ploterre) became aware of the beginnings of the Met Office. Barometers such as these lined the coasts of the UK, where people observed and reported the weather.

The weather forecasts.

No. 98. The Orkney barometer is one of only 2 remaining. It struck Rebecca as unusual that that this barometer was still in use as recently as 2005. And so this book follows the journey of the wind across the first year that was left unread: 2006. Using the very data that these barometers founded. The Met Office.

The story is interweaved with a design produced from the data and using the cone system that was put in place to warn seafarers of bad weather.
