The East End in Colour 1980 - 1990 by Tim Brown

Regular price £16.95

Tim brown's photographs of London streets, taken during two decades of extraordinary change and upheaval, have a strong nostalgic pull for us. London here is in a state of flux, the grimy brick surfaces slowly being torn down to be replaced by glass and metal. Brown is an archivist, a conservationist, in that he, like Leeds' own Peter Mitchell, was taking pictures to preserve what would eventually decay and be lost.

A driver on underground trains, Brown took these photos between shifts - and the images presented describe a journey from East London towards the City's centre. Most of what you see, the pubs, cinemas and shops, are gone - thank heavens someone thought to capture it all before it disappeared.
