Something | Somewhere is a new quarterly magazine, set up by Martin Dust (of Sheffield's The Black Dog), to support photographers and their passion projects directly. The second issue presents the work of Sheffield-based photographer Mick Jones.
Mick Jones, who studied photography as part of his studies in graphic design in the late '60s, was brought up on the Park Hill estate in Sheffield. Many of his photographs taken in this period are of the famous estate and many have spent years undeveloped. Martin Dust writes in the introduction:
"Talking to Mick about his life on Park Hill, you can hear his passion and appreciate the good times he had. His photographs perfectly capture the surroundings, the people and a particular moment in time. While some won’t see the beauty, it’s obvious to me.
I could wax lyrical about all of these photographs and I didn’t even take them. Sure, much of this place has changed, but take a look at that final photograph; Those are the slums from which Park Hill rose and no one speaks fondly of those!"
