'Some Thing Means Everything To Somebody' by Peter Mitchell (SIGNED COPIES + PRINT!)
"The scarecrows are Everyman, they're just there as an observer, or as a symbol of humanity". So said photographer, graphic designer and thoroughly decent chap Peter Mitchell at the beginning of this year as he spoke about his upcoming book with me at his house in Leeds. This IS that book and it was well worth the wait.
'Some thing means everything to somebody' is a pictorial autobiography, one told through inanimate objects which are silently watched over by the scarecrows Peter has been photographing over the last 40 years . Inside you'll find the name badge from a Frog Eyed Sprite, a child's gas mask, a stack of Peter's diaries (some, not all), an Angel-poise lamp, all "scruffy little objects" some of which the photographer has had in his possession since he was a small boy. The objects are left to face each other silently, juxtaposed across the pages, everyday objects under the gaze of the Everyman. At the rear, in a footnotes section, the objects that make up the book are fleshed out in Peter's own inimitable, surreal and witty way.
This is a great book, a book that deserves your attention and one that will resonate with everyone. Beautifully published by RRB Photobooks in Bristol and limited to 950 copies worldwide.
