The new issue of Hinterland is a place writing special and is published in collaboration with Manchester Metropolitan University's Centre for Place Writing. Inside you'll find writing that transports us away from the here and now to new places - to Prague during the Velvet Revolution, to the flux and chaos of a post-Gaddafi Benghazi, or to the 'clouds, myths and tall tales' of Patagonia. Closer to home we experience the treacherous waters of the Bristol Chanel, discover the magic of Cardiff, or tread the eroding Yorkshire coastline at Withernsea.
Finding places to be way markers in our lives, sites of history in the making, and settings wracked by forces beyond our control - these 10 pieces of writing dedicated to place whisk us away from a present that feels, just for a while, worth escaping.
Features writing from:
Alison Baxter, Camilla Brueton, Laura Cooper, Linda Cracknell, Adam Farrer, Hannah Garrard, Anthony Head, Sylvia K. Ilahuka, Hannah Storm, Linda Mannheim, Jean Sprackland, Rebecca Thomas, and Julie Zuckerman
