I lived with my stepbrother in the early '90s; a 20 stone binman who listened almost exclusively to The Fall (with a peppering of Mark Riley and The Creepers). it remains a vital piece of my education.
Excavate is well titled, it is an unearthing of treasure - unseen artwork, handwritten notes, rare ephemera and LP sleeves from the Fall archives. Alongside these visual riches are essays - from, among others, Ian Penman, Owen Hatherley, Elaine Harwood, Mark Fisher, Adelle Stripe and editors Bob Stanley and Tessa Norton.
And yes, if it's Mark E. Smith and your granny on bongos it is the Fall, but here is the cast of players that help make the band - not just the musicians, but the authors, painters, poets and goalkeeping plumbers.
Come on, expand your head, dig the Fall. Excavate!
