'we wanna be free, we wanna be free to do what we wanna do'
Record labels can change your life. Creation Records changed mine. I still can't read the filigree font on the cover of the 'first' House of Love LP without shivering, knowing what's coming, how it will transport me back to a sweaty Camden Falcon, all the bowl cuts, Breton tops, and John Cale shades.
And then there was My Bloody Valentine, Felt, Ride, Slowdive, The Chills, JAMC, The Telescopes, The pastels, Primal Scream and that year I let Bandwagonesque take control of my ears and my life.
Creation Records started with a Legend and ended with an XTRMNTR, it took us from Thatcher's re-election in '83 to Blair's champagne socialism, it was, and still is, one of the greatest record labels to have ever existed. It also gave us Oasis.
This is the Creation records story, re-published for the first time in years (with a new intro by John Harris). This story will never happen again.
