Sunday Best: A Celebration of Diversity by Katie Waggett.

Regular price £16.95

Katie Waggett's 'Sunday Best' project set out to celebrate London's rich religious diversity. These portraits - accompanied by personal quotes - were taken on the street, capturing people emerging from services dressed in their Sunday Best.

Waggett's project was set in motion after a terror attack in the city as an attempt to capture the beauty and richness of diversity visible on the streets and to not let the voices of hate and separatism win out. As Jilke Golbach says in her introduction, today Britain seems more divided than ever before, with religion often taking the brunt of the anger.

These photographs capture hope and provide a counterbalance to the rhetoric of fear and hate. Within these pages, diversity is not just represented by the religions themselves (the selection broadly represents the six largest religions of the city), but the ethnicity of the people practising those religions, their ages, beliefs and, importantly, the clothes they choose to wear.

Sunday Best is a feast of colour and a love letter to a city that so depends on diversity for its survival.
