As Uppercase makes it to it's 40th issue and a decade of publishing, it takes its inspiration from the humble pencil and asks what makes something so iconic and long-lasting? Inside there are promotional pencils, purveyors of fine art supplies, the history of the pencil and a profile on the graphite thoroughbred, The Blackwing 602. Elsewhere makers from all over the world talk about how Uppercase has inspired them, friends of the magazine share their entrepreneurial experience and editor Janice Vangool lists the things she's learnt since heading up this beautiful mag.
Uppercase is put together by Janine Vangool who has a keen eye for contemporary crafts. It is beautifully printed on matte stock and the spine alone is a work of art. A pleasing and collectable publication. While the magazine looks at traditional craft, it is in no way nostalgic, it looks at contemporary applications and champions modern and inspiring craft.
The beautiful double-page spread of promotional pencils.
