Regular price £12.50

Subtitled 'A messy history of women in printing and typography', this excellent new title from Occasional Papers is a response to the groundbreaking publication of 1937 titled 'Bookmaking on the Distaff Side'. The original text brought together contributions by women printers, illustrators, authors, typographers, and typesetters, highlighting the print industry’s inequalities and proposing a takeover of the history of the book.

‘A Messy History...’ contains newly commissioned articles, poetry and conversations with women typesetters alongside facsimile pages of the original text. Inside there are reflections on women’s place within the history of print and printing, a look back at the Women’s Liberation Movement in Britain, a re-evaluation of the original text and much more besides. This role of this important title, as stated in the introduction, is to "contribute to an expanded feminist historiography of contemporary graphic design".
