England on Fire: A Visual Journey Through Albion's Psychic Landscape | Stephen Ellcock & Mat Osman

Regular price £25.00

'England on Fire' presents us with a series of images, collated and curated by Stephen Ellcock, that portrays an England which is far from the bucolic, pastoral idyll we are often presented with. Here we find a hallucinatory, saturnalian alternative (and aren't we all looking for that?), that supplants rustic and provincial imagery with dragons, faeries, carnival & pantomime, standing stones and folklore - it teems with life, seethes with revolt.

With themes that include wilderness, myth & magic, enchantment, visions and rebellion - this beautiful book keys in to something very much in the air and opens our eyes to a breathtaking array of prints, photographs, paintings and artefacts that illuminate a glowing seam of radicalism in our native creative spirit.

Established artists (including Blake, Ravilious, Beardsley, Nash and Millais) rub shoulders with contemporary image makers (Ben Edge, Sikhela Owen, Sutapa Biswas, India Rose Bird) to create a flow that crackles like an energy line.

Here is a much needed "radical, noisy art" to counteract the conservative compressing of our lives and liberties and help us think in a different way.
